History of the Community Refugee Fund

The work of Community Refugee Fund was launched in January 1999 by Sr. Helen Petrimoulx snjm who, as the Refugee Specialist for the Diocese of London Refugee Office in Windsor, ON for Refugee Claimants, saw the critical need for a trust fund that served the needs of economically disadvantaged refugee claimants. She retired from this position in June 2012 and continues to head the fundraising for the Community Refugee Fund.

The Community Refugee Fund is stretched in its ability to respond to the most critical needs of the economically disadvantaged refugees it serves within the claimant stream. For this reason, our goal is to expand our donor base to include individuals, corporations, foundations and businesses with the financial capacity to help us expand the resources we have available to help families.

What is our ultimate dream for the future? We hope to raise sufficient funds to establish a Community Refugee Endowment, within the Community Refugee Fund, that will endure and supportĀ generations to come.

The Community Refugee Fund is currently held 'In Trust' by the Sisters of the Holy Names in Windsor, Ontario.
